Description
Tangerine, Plum, Vanilla
Café Don Cayito is grown in the coffee region of Tarrazu, Costa Rica; specifically in Santa Maria de Dota. Our coffee fields are located between 1650 – 2100 m of elevation in a wonderful landscape of steep slopes, that protect the crops from the Atlantic weather, but allow the ocean breeze from the Pacific, with lots of sunny hours during the day.
The area is already known as a land of exceptional coffee, not only for the characteristics of its soil but also for the experience and good work of its coffee farmers.
Looking for that high quality standard, they started processing the coffee in their own micro mill Los Angeles since 2009. This has enabled them to perform proper follow-up to the work at the farm, dividing the harvest in lots and micro lots according to the coffee’s variety and the process that will be applied (washed, honey or natural).
In their fields they grow traditional Costa Rica varieties like Caturra and Catuai Red and Yellow, as well as more exotic varieties sought by the boutique coffee market like Typica, SL 28 and Geisha, among others.
It was precisely this level of care combined with the Geisha coffee that they achieved 1st place in the Costa Rica Cup of Excellence contest in 2018 with a score of 91.15.
“It was a lot with a Geisha line from our Don Cayito farm with an elevation of 1900m, dried in raised tables ” , describes Mr. Ricardo Calderón, father of the family. It is the second time that our farm receives this great recognition, in 2011 we also obtained the first place with a Catuai red lot from our farm La Estrella.
Roasters Notes:
It’s our pleasure to present to you a farm with a long history of award wining coffees in Costa Rica. Expect no wild funky flavors in this one but an extremely clean, balanced and sweet coffee. We’re really enjoying this as espresso, where a plum & tangerine acidity presents itself with a delightful long finish. With milk, an extra touch of vanilla sweetness
